Piyush Goyal Says India Is Taking on a Bigger Role in Global Growth

Singapore, Aug 22: India is steadily emerging as a stronger force in the global economy, with its expanding market, growing investment opportunities and deeper international partnerships positioning the country as an important driver of global growth, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said.

Speaking at the ICAI International Conference 2026 in Singapore, Goyal highlighted India’s evolving role in the global economy and the opportunities it presents for businesses, investors and professionals.

He said India’s economic growth is being supported by policy reforms, stronger global engagement and efforts to attract long-term investment. Goyal also stressed the importance of building international partnerships that can create opportunities for shared economic growth.

During his visit to Singapore, Goyal met representatives of leading family-owned businesses and encouraged them to explore investment opportunities in India. He highlighted the country’s large and growing market as well as efforts to create a more favourable environment for long-term investors.

The discussions also covered emerging sectors that are becoming increasingly important to India’s economic ambitions. Goyal met Ritu Mehlawat, Head of Investments, India, at ST Telemedia Global Data Centres, to discuss investment and collaboration opportunities in India’s rapidly expanding data-centre industry.

Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada also held discussions with Singapore-based companies on strengthening business ties and expanding cooperation in areas including semiconductors. He highlighted opportunities for greater participation by Singaporean companies and small and medium-sized enterprises in India, along with collaboration to develop the skilled workforce needed for a competitive semiconductor industry.

The engagements were part of India’s wider economic outreach to Singapore, with a focus on strengthening trade and investment ties between the two countries.

India is looking to play a larger role in global supply chains and emerging industries. Goyal’s engagements in Singapore underline the government’s push to position India as a trusted investment destination and a key contributor to future global economic growth.
