Mumbai, Aug 22: India’s growing trade and economic partnerships with Australia, the United Kingdom and New Zealand are opening new avenues for businesses across agriculture, services, investment, critical minerals, technology and sports.

The growing engagement with the three countries is creating opportunities for greater market access, investment, technology exchange and sharing of expertise, while strengthening India’s position in global trade.
India-Australia economic cooperation is expanding beyond traditional merchandise trade. The two countries are exploring opportunities in critical minerals, sports, research and technology, with Australia’s expertise in resources complementing India’s growing industrial and consumer market.
Critical minerals have emerged as an important area of cooperation. Australian and Indian researchers are working together to assess India’s mineral resources and explore the potential of resources such as lithium. This could support future investment, technology partnerships and stronger supply chains for critical minerals.
The India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement is also expected to provide a significant boost to bilateral commerce. The agreement expands opportunities for Indian exporters and strengthens cooperation in goods, services, investment and professional mobility. With 99 per cent of Indian products set to receive zero-duty access in the UK, Indian businesses are expected to gain wider access to the British market.
Agriculture is another promising area of cooperation, particularly between India and New Zealand. The two countries have significant scope for sharing technology, expertise and modern farming practices to improve productivity and strengthen agricultural value chains.
The difference in apple productivity between India and New Zealand highlights the potential for such cooperation. New Zealand’s higher productivity and complementary production season create opportunities for knowledge exchange, better farming practices and expanded agricultural trade.
The partnerships are increasingly moving beyond conventional trade to focus on areas that can deliver long-term economic value. Critical minerals, advanced technology, agriculture, services, investment and human resource development are emerging as important pillars of India’s engagement with these economies.
The expanding partnerships are expected to create new opportunities for Indian exporters, attract investment, encourage innovation and strengthen connections between businesses and markets.
India’s growing engagement with Australia, the UK and New Zealand reflects its broader effort to build strong, diversified and mutually beneficial trade relationships that support investment, create jobs and contribute to sustainable economic growth.
