Bhubaneswar, June 5: The Government of Odisha has appointed Sudhansu Sekhar Barpanda as a Member of the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC), according to an official notification issued by the State Energy Department.
The appointment has been made under the provisions of Sub-section (5) of Section 82 of the Electricity Act, 2003, which empowers the State Government to nominate members to the regulatory commission.
As per the notification, Shri Barpanda will assume office with effect from the date he takes charge of his duties as Member of the Commission.
The Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission plays a key role in regulating the power sector in the state, including tariff determination, licensing, and ensuring efficient functioning of electricity distribution and supply systems.
Officials said the appointment is expected to strengthen the regulatory framework and support the Commission’s mandate of ensuring transparency, accountability, and efficiency in Odisha’s power sector governance.
The Energy Department’s notification formally confirmed the appointment and stated that it has been issued in accordance with the relevant legal provisions under the Electricity Act, 2003.
