The Department of Economics, XITE College organized a departmental seminar on 19th March 2024 on the theme; “Decoding the Union Interim Budget 2024”. The seminar was well attended by students and faculty of the Department of Economics. The Coordinator of the Department, Dr. Sanchita Ghosh Chowdhury offered the welcome address and stated that the objective of the seminar was to give meaningful insights on various aspects of this Interim Budget which is based on the theme “Viksit Bharat” and to discuss the various opportunities and benefits to the nation, its citizens, and the welfare and aspirations of the four focus groups that is, Gareeb (poor), Mahila (women), Yuva (youth), and Annadata (farmers). Students of the department, Mr. Anil Jojowar, Mr. Melwyn David, Mr. Lavish Boipai from Semester 6, and Ms. Pragya B. Kujur, Ms. Jaya Mardi, Mr. Ayush Bhengra and Ms. Shreya Munduiya from Semester 3 gave insights on Education, capital expenditure, startups and entrepreneurship, budget deficit, manufacturing, taxes and Defense budget. Dr. Radha Mahali, faculty from the Department of Economics summed up the seminar with her thoughts on the interim budget. She discussed the role of this budget in the attainment of India’s long-term goals and SDGs and the possibility of India becoming a Developed nation by 2047. This was followed by an interactive session with the audience where queries were addressed and verbal feedback was taken. Ms. Supriya Mohanty, student of Semester 6 proposed the vote of thanks. Ms. Ashwini V. Purty was the Master of the Ceremony. Fr. (Dr.) E.A. Francis, S.J., Principal, XITE College and Fr. (Dr.) Mukti Clarence, S.J., Vice-Principal, XITE College congratulated the department for successfully conducting the seminar.
