NMIMS Bengaluru Launches ‘Exploring Human Rights: Contemporary Challenges and Solutions’ Compilation

Bengaluru, 15th May, 2024 : On a momentous occasion, SVKM’s NMIMS Bengaluru campus recently launched a book, titled, ‘Exploring Human Rights: Contemporary Challenges and Solutions’, edited, screened and published by Dr. Tanmeet Kaur Sahiwal, Assistant Professor and Chairperson – School of Law  and Dr. Samraggi Chakraborty, Assistant Professor – School of Law. The book, launched by Dr. Ramesh Bhat, Vice-Chancellor, NMIMS Deemed-to-be-University, is a compendium of nine chapters based on the proceedings of an international conference held by the NMIMS Bengaluru School of Law (SOL) in collaboration with the Boston University School of Law.

The editorial board included Prof. Sahhana Subba Reddy, Assistant Professor – School of Law, Ms. Soumya Tongaonkar, Student, School of Law and Ms. Shreya Sharma, Student School of Law while Prof. Rebecca Pendleton, Lecturer, Faculty Director, Boston University School of Law, has written the insightful foreword for the compilation.

The book revolves around the rich insights and knowledge exchanged at the international conference on ‘Emerging Global Dimensions of Human Rights in the Contemporary Era’, jointly hosted by NMIMS Bengaluru SOL and Boston University School of Law. The conference marked the first collaboration between the latter and another higher education institution. It provided a vital platform to discuss and address pressing human rights issues that are affecting individuals worldwide.

Meanwhile, the book sheds light on the recent unfortunate developments in Ukraine and the Gaza Strip as well as the human rights concerns that arise from the conflict. It discusses the urgent need for global cooperation and adherence to international human rights standards. It is a collection of diverse and rich perspectives from authors of different backgrounds and experiences, delving into the most critical issues of our time, from social justice, equality, and political freedom to environmental sustainability and the protection of vulnerable populations.

Speaking about the book, Dr. Ramesh Bhat said, “I am delighted to launch ‘Exploring Human Rights: Contemporary Challenges and Solutions’. The book puts forth varied and deeply thought-out perspectives and presents concrete solutions for human rights challenges across the globe. NMIMS University thanks all the authors for their insightful contributions, which I believe will inspire transformative action in addressing the world’s most pressing social and political challenges.”

Talking about the book launch, Dr. Narayani Ramachandran, Campus Director, NMIMS Bengaluru, said, “It is a matter of pride for us to host the launch of the thought-provoking book. It is a result of our collaboration with Boston University and I hope it serves as a crucial platform for discussing and dissecting the intricate human rights challenges globally. Meanwhile, Dr. Tanmeet Kaur Sahiwal said, “Exploring Human Rights: Contemporary Challenges and Solutions’ is a compilation of the insights, viewpoints, and academic efforts exchanged during the international conference co-hosted by Boston University School of Law and NMIMS Bengaluru. The papers included in this compilation deal with a spectrum of contemporary human rights challenges, offering nuanced insights and answers.
