IIMBx and upGrad Launch General Management Certificate Programme for Young Leaders

India, July 14: The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, through its digital learning foundation IIMBx, in partnership with upGrad, has launched the Certificate in General Management for Young Leaders , an 11-month blended learning programme designed to help early-career professionals & young managers build the managerial, strategic, and leadership capabilities required to transition into leadership roles. Applications are now open for the inaugural cohort, commencing on September 30, 2026.

As organisations continue to seek leaders who can navigate complexity, drive business outcomes, and lead teams effectively, many young professionals face a common challenge: transitioning from being high-performing individual contributors to successful managers. While functional expertise often fuels early career growth, leadership roles demand a broader understanding of business strategy, decision-making, cross-functional collaboration, and people management.

To address this critical career inflection point, IIM Bangalore has developed the General Management for Young Leaders Programme, offering professionals with 1–5 years of work experience a structured pathway to build core management capabilities while continuing to work full-time.

Delivered through IIMBx, the programme combines the flexibility of online learning with immersive, campus-based experiences. Participants will attend two campus immersion modules at IIM Bangalore, providing opportunities to engage with faculty, peers, and the broader IIMB ecosystem. The curriculum also includes 20 live sessions with senior industry practitioners and 10 faculty-led sessions by IIM Bangalore professors, blending academic rigour with practical business insights.

The programme is designed to provide participants with exposure to key management disciplines, strategic thinking frameworks, leadership mindsets, and business decision-making approaches that are increasingly essential in today’s dynamic workplace.

Prof. M.S. Narasimhan, Programme Director, IIM Bangalore, said:

” The leap from individual contributor to manager is one of the steepest career transitions – and technical expertise alone rarely prepares professionals for it. The General Management for Young Leaders Programme targets exactly this inflection point, equipping early-career professionals with the management foundation, strategic perspective, and cross-functional fluency they need to lead effectively, all while remaining in their current roles”

Commenting on the launch, Anuj Vishwakarma, CEO, Higher education programs, upGrad, said:

“India’s young workforce is ambitious, capable, and eager to take on larger responsibilities. However, many professionals find themselves at a stage where technical expertise alone is no longer sufficient for career progression. Through this programme, learners gain access to world-class management education from IIM Bangalore in a format that allows them to continue building their careers while preparing for leadership opportunities. It is designed to help professionals confidently take the next step in their professional journey.”

The programme is particularly relevant for professionals across sectors including technology, consulting, BFSI, e-commerce, FMCG, and startups who are seeking to strengthen their leadership potential and prepare for managerial responsibilities.

Upon successful completion, participants will receive an IIMBx Certificate and gain Affiliate Alumni Status, enabling access to the wider IIM Bangalore professional network. The programme combines the academic excellence and credibility of IIM Bangalore with a flexible learning format tailored to the needs of working professionals.

Applications are currently open, with limited seats available.
