Festive Season Set to Create More Jobs in 2026 as Online Shopping and Quick Commerce Expand

New Delhi, Aug 12: India’s festive season is expected to bring a fresh wave of employment opportunities in 2026, with seasonal hiring projected to rise by 15–20 per cent as e-commerce, quick commerce and logistics companies prepare for a surge in consumer demand.

Businesses are getting ready for one of the busiest periods of the year, when millions of consumers turn to online and offline platforms for everything from fashion and electronics to groceries and household products. To keep up with the expected increase in orders, companies are likely to add more workers across delivery, warehousing, retail, customer service and other frontline roles.

E-commerce and quick-commerce companies are expected to drive much of this seasonal recruitment. The growing popularity of doorstep delivery, combined with consumer expectations for faster fulfilment, is encouraging companies to strengthen their last-mile delivery and warehouse networks.

Quick-commerce firms, in particular, are likely to step up temporary hiring as festive demand rises. The sector is expected to see strong demand for delivery partners, warehouse staff and other operational workers.

The hiring push is not expected to be limited to online businesses. Retailers, logistics providers, FMCG companies and consumer-durable brands are also preparing for higher sales during the festive period and may increase their workforce accordingly.

For many job seekers, festive hiring can provide an opportunity to earn additional income, gain work experience or find a pathway into longer-term employment. Young people and workers looking for flexible employment are expected to account for a significant share of the seasonal workforce.

The expansion of digital commerce into smaller cities and towns is also widening the employment footprint beyond major metropolitan areas. As online shopping reaches more consumers, demand for delivery and logistics workers is growing across a broader range of locations.

The expected increase in festive recruitment highlights how changing shopping habits are reshaping India’s employment market. With consumers increasingly combining traditional retail with online and quick-commerce services, businesses are preparing their workforce well ahead of the festive rush.

The 2026 festive hiring season is therefore expected to be not only a period of stronger sales, but also an important source of temporary and flexible employment for thousands of workers across the country.
