Indian consumer preferences are undergoing a structural transformation. Today’s consumers are more informed, digitally connected, health-conscious and less brand loyal. Purchase decisions are increasingly influenced by transparency, quality and clean-label products, while omnichannel retail, e-commerce and quick commerce continue to reshape shopping behaviour. AI-powered recommendations, creator ecosystems and digital platforms are also becoming central to how consumers discover, evaluate and purchase products.

Major structural trends are redefining consumer commerce. The report identifies resilient supply chains, AI as the core business operations layer, instant and integrated commerce ecosystems, sustainability and the global expansion of Indian consumer brands as the key trends shaping the future of India‘s FMCG, retail and e-commerce sectors.

The policy and regulatory landscape continues to evolve. The report provides a comprehensive overview of developments across food safety and labelling, packaging sustainability and EPR, GST, consumer protection, data privacy and DPDP implementation, AI governance, influencer marketing, legal metrology and emerging e-commerce regulations, highlighting their implications for businesses operating in consumer-facing sectors.
-
Ease of Doing Business remains critical to unlocking long-term growth. While reforms continue to strengthen the business environment, the report highlights persistent challenges arising from overlapping regulations, fragmented implementation and compliance complexity. It recommends greater regulatory harmonisation, risk-based compliance frameworks, enhanced digitalisation of compliance processes and more predictable policy implementation.
-
The report also outlines actionable recommendations for businesses and policymakers. These include accelerating AI adoption, modernising supply chains, strengthening sustainability initiatives, expanding the global presence of Indian consumer brands, improving regulatory preparedness and establishing robust AI governance frameworks to support the next phase of India‘s consumer economy.
