New Delhi, Feb 6th: The ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) on Tuesday observed its 14th Foundation Day, marking the occasion with a message to the people of Sikkim issued by Chief Minister and party president Shri Prem Singh Tamang.
In his message, the Chief Minister described February 4 as a historic and defining day that transformed not only individual lives but also reshaped the political destiny of Sikkim. He recalled the origins of the SKM movement fourteen years ago, which began as a small act of resistance and gradually evolved into a mass people’s movement that brought an end to an era of governance perceived as authoritarian and detached from the will of the people.
Shri Tamang paid tribute to the martyrs and revolutionaries associated with the early phase of the movement and expressed gratitude to party comrades and supporters who stood firm during difficult times. He emphasised that the SKM movement was people-driven and acknowledged the unwavering trust, love, and support of the citizens of Sikkim as the foundation of the party’s strength.
Reaffirming that the party’s objectives extend beyond electoral success, the Chief Minister stated that the core aim of the SKM revolution remains systemic transformation to ensure justice, dignity, and equal opportunity for all citizens. He noted that the SKM era has already begun in Sikkim, with the party committed to governance rooted in vision, integrity, and continuity, and with an aspiration to emerge as one of the longest-serving governments in the country.
On the occasion, Shri Tamang announced the formal launch of the SKM Party’s campaign for the 2029 Assembly elections, setting a target of all 573 polling booths across the state. The party, he stated, aims to secure victory in all 32 Assembly seats as well as in every polling booth, while focusing on internal growth and raising its own standards of performance.
In his message, the Chief Minister also welcomed leaders and members from the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) and the Citizen Action Party (CAP) who have recently joined the SKM. He noted that their decision reflects confidence in the party’s vision and a shared commitment to constructive participation in the governance and development of the state. Acknowledging the experience and perspectives they bring, he expressed confidence that their involvement would strengthen collective efforts in policy formulation and public service, and called for cooperation, mutual respect, and unity in working towards progress and stability.
Shri Tamang further welcomed all new members who have joined the party, stating that their faith reinforces the collective resolve to build Sunaulo, Samriddha ani Samartha Sikkim. He reiterated the party’s commitment to inclusive politics founded on equality, dignity, and respect, without discrimination.
The Chief Minister expressed gratitude to the party’s core members, foundation day organising committee, party functionaries, government officials, and well-wishers for their dedication and support in commemorating the occasion. He acknowledged the tireless efforts of grassroots workers whose discipline and commitment, he said, form the backbone of the party’s organisational strength.
Concluding his message, Shri Tamang conveyed his appreciation to all those who stood together in unity and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to serve the people with humility, compassion, and a sense of collective responsibility.
