Care Beyond Power: Tata Power’s Odisha 2.0 Launches Training on Wheels for Workforce Development

Bhubaneswar, October 7, 2025 : In a bold move toward holistic development in the power sector, Tata Power has unveiled a new initiative under the theme “Care Beyond Power – Bikash People Matter” as part of its Odisha 2.0 program. The centerpiece of this launch is the ‘Training on Wheels’ mobile learning unit, flagged off by Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo at the Electricity Distribution Technology Centre in Bhubaneswar.

The launch gathered prominent dignitaries, including MLAs Siddhanta Mahapatra and Akash Das Nayak, actress Anu Choudhury, and senior executives from TPNODL, Odisha Power Distribution (Business), and TPCODL, underscoring the importance of this people centric approach.

What ‘Training on Wheels’ Means

Rather than asking employees to travel to central training centers, this program takes education directly to them. The mobile unit delivers training modules on:

• Electrical safety and behavioral safety
• Professional technical skills
• Emergency preparedness and first aid
• Working at heights and line work safety

Over the course of its deployment, it will reach employees working in fuse call centers, distribution centers, and regional network zones across 1.54 lakh square kilometers, covering 743 sections statewide.

Why This Matters

1. Training Wherever They Are
When learning comes to the staff rather than the other way around, service disruption is minimal. Employees don’t have to leave their posts, yet gain access to high-quality training.
2. Safety First
Electricity distribution work is inherently risky. Regular exposure to hazards—high voltage lines, overhead work—requires ongoing training. The program aims to reduce accidents and improve on-the-ground safety culture.
3. Boosting Skills and Morale
When an organization invests in employee development, it nurtures loyalty and motivation. This initiative signals that workers’ growth and well being are high priorities.
4. Bridging Skill Gaps Equitably
Remote and rural employees often miss out on professional development. A mobile training model ensures that all staff, regardless of location, receive the same level of coaching and upskilling.
5. Better Service, Stronger Trust
A well-trained workforce translates into faster issue resolution, fewer outages, and safer operations. Over time, this builds public confidence in the electricity provider.

Beyond Power: Odisha 2.0’s Vision for Inclusive Development

‘Training on Wheels’ is just one component of the broader Odisha 2.0 vision. The program includes:

• Upgrading modern office infrastructure
• Streamlining employee welfare and connectivity
• Community outreach programs in business partner areas
• Health services and grassroots sports initiatives
Together, these efforts aim to blend infrastructure development with human development.
