India Delivers 3 Tonnes of Anti-TB Medicines to Sri Lanka, Reinforces Healthcare Partnership

Colombo, Oct 7: India has strengthened its healthcare support to Sri Lanka by handing over around three tonnes of essential anti-tuberculosis medicines, reaffirming its commitment to helping the neighbouring country address critical public health needs.

The consignment was formally handed over by Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Santosh Jha to Sri Lankan Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa at the Ministry of Health in Colombo.

The shipment includes more than 1.5 million tablets of essential first-line anti-TB medicines, valued at around Sri Lankan Rs 52 million. The medicines were supplied in response to a request from the Sri Lankan government and are aimed at ensuring uninterrupted treatment for TB patients.

The assistance was facilitated with the support of India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and reflects the growing cooperation between the two countries in the healthcare sector.

India has consistently extended medical and humanitarian assistance to Sri Lanka, including support for medicines, medical equipment and public health initiatives. The latest contribution further highlights India’s people-centric approach to development partnership with its neighbouring countries.

The handover also comes as Sri Lanka continues efforts to strengthen access to essential healthcare services and maintain the availability of medicines for patients requiring long-term treatment.

Through such initiatives, India continues to support Sri Lanka’s healthcare priorities while deepening the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
