Kolkata, July 20: Kolkata Centre for Creativity , in collaboration with FICCI Ladies Organisation Kolkata Chapter and supported by Phoenix, presented the 3rd All Bengal Rapid Chess Tournament for Persons with Disabilities in commemoration of International Chess Day. Bringing together participants from across West Bengal, the tournament celebrates the game as a space where ability, focus and competitive spirit take precedence.
FICCI Ladies Organisation Kolkata Chapter, led by Chairperson Mansi Agarwal, has extended its wholehearted support to the initiative with the shared vision of fostering inclusive societal development and supporting children with disabilities in the community. Through this collaboration, the organisation reinforces its commitment to creating meaningful opportunities that empower persons with disabilities and encourage greater social participation.
Chess is one of the few sports where success depends entirely on thought, patience and strategy. The tournament gives participants an opportunity to compete, meet fellow players and test themselves in a welcoming environment. It is also part of KCC’s ongoing effort to create programmes that make participation more accessible and recognise excellence wherever it is found.
The tournament featured players with visual, hearing and physical disabilities competing in a rapid chess format across multiple rounds. Participants from different parts of the state came together for a day of competition, conversation and shared learning. Beyond the results on the board, the event celebrated the confidence and commitment that competitive sport can foster.
Held annually to mark International Chess Day, the tournament has steadily established itself as a platform for competitive chess among persons with disabilities. It also highlights the importance of ensuring that opportunities to compete are available to everyone, regardless of ability.
